Job Description

The EHS Coordinator has primary responsibility for implementing the Environmental, Health and Safety processes for a facility by:

  • Promoting EHS awareness with the emphasis on preventing incidents and protecting the environment.
  • Responsibility for performing JSA’s and SFMEA’s to identify and assess hazards in the workplace. Recommends and implements corrective measures.
  • Working with plant personnel daily and completes EHS projects, assignments, and requirements. 50% of this positions time will be spent on the plant floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Management:
    • Implement all elements of the Tempel/Worthington Steel Safety Improvement Process
    • Ensure EHS Management systems are implemented and maintained effectively, including but not limited to:
      • ISO 14001
      • Job Safety Assessments (JSA’s)
      • Worthington Industries EHS Management System (WEIMS)
      • Safety Operating System Management (SOS)
      • SDS and Chemical Safety Management
    • Aids in the implementation of cost reduction and continuous improvement projects
  • Compliance:
    • Ensures facilities are compliant with all EHS-related laws and regulations
    • Schedules, performs and tracks EHS Audits/Independent Observations
    • Manages plant areas to include both hazardous and non-hazardous waste, VOC use, stormwater inspections, recycling, and First Aid supply programs
  • Training:
    • Leads required safety and environmental employee training
    • Updates posting on EHS boards in different departments
    • Conducts New Hire Safety Orientation (NESO)
  • Risk Assessment:
    • Develops, reviews and audits JSA’s to assess risk and determine effective risk reduction methods via engineering controls, operational processes and personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Collaborates with the EHS Manager, Engineering and Department Supervisors to develop their Safety Failure Modes & Effects Analyses (SFMEA’s) to continually improve processes and reduce risk
  • Incident Investigation:
    • Drives the incident investigation process to identify root cause
    • Ensures proper documentation of findings into WEIMS
    • Tracks implementation corrective actions to completion
    • Reviews effectiveness of corrective actions with EHS Manager post implementation
Critical Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Must possess strong organization and recordkeeping skills
  • Must possess a working knowledge of environmental, health and safety compliance
  • Positive and engaging communication skills with all levels of plant personnel
  • Strong MS Office Knowledge
  • Ability to spend 50% time on plant floor in a heavy industrial environment and partner with department supervisors and leads
Education / Training Required
  • 2-year Associates Degree in Manufacturing Operations, Environmental Health and Safety or Environmental Technology
  • 30-hr OSHA training or 511 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in assisting with planning and conducting successful safety programs covering a wide variety of occupations and exposures to hazardous work environments.
  • CPR/First-Aid/AED Certified
